What to Expect and Do When Going Whitewater Rafting in Idaho Springs

Whitewater rafting in Idaho Springs is a fun summer activity for anyone who appreciates the outdoors and a bit of adrenaline! Increasingly, people are venturing out of their homes and offices to explore more of Colorado’s beautiful natural landscape. We at Rocky Mountain Whitewater Rafting love that more first-timers are discovering the excitement of whitewater rafting. In order to get the most out of your rafting experience with us, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

1. Make Sure to Go Whitewater Rafting with a Company that Puts Safety First!

While there is some inherent risk involved (as there is with all outdoor activities), rafting is generally a very safe activity. However, you’ll still want to make sure that the company you are rafting with is very safety conscious and puts those needs ahead of anything else.

Our guides are all enthusiastic for outdoor adventures and are First Aid and CPR certified. They also have no less than 2 years of rafting experience.

2. Come Prepared!

Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a quick drying swimsuit and an Under Armour type of shirt that will be comfortable to wear under a wet suit and a splash jacket. Once you’re crashing down the river, you’ll be having so much more fun when you are dressed for success. Be sure to avoid wearing any cotton on the river and leave it with your clothes to change into after the river.

3. Have a Good Mindset for Whitewater Rafting in Idaho Springs!

Prior to getting on the river, remember that you will be participating in a physical activity at an elevation of 7,500 feet. It is important that you drink plenty of water prior to your rafting trip to ensure that you are capable of performing at your best. You also want to remain attentive while on the river so that you can respond to the commands given by your guide. A good responsive raft paddle team allows your guide to navigate you and your raft on the best route down the river. And if anything were to go awry, that levelheaded and attentive attitude will result in the best possible outcome.
